<u>What’s the role about </u>

This role involves leading our work both in terms of the planning and implementation of our ambitious conservation management objectives and how we engage with our visitors and the local communities.

Looking after several reserves and making sure they deliver for nature - you’ll have a business to run, which has unique conservation challenges. Carngafallt has ancient wood pasture with veteran trees and oak-dominated Celtic rainforest, Gwenffrwd-Dinas is a large reserve with more than 600 hectares of sweeping upland, lowland farmland and verdant Atlantic Oak woodland. You will also be responsible for our woodland reserves in the Mawddach Valley and an urban fringe site at Cwm Clydach near Swansea.

You’ll know exactly how to get the very best out of everyone and how best to support and motivate Site Wardens and Volunteers and you'll know how to work with a range of specialists within and outside of the RSPB. You’ll have budgets to manage and evolve, management plans to develop and implement. And plenty of exciting and rewarding challenges along the way. Key activities will include:

• Lead the vision and direction for the reserves, through the production and delivery of reserve management plans in order to deliver site objectives
• Be the main point of contact with the local community to build/maintain good relationships
• Work actively with the Land Agency team, to ensure that the reserve estate and buildings are well-maintained, safe, secure and risk-free at all times.
• Project manage medium/small projects to ensure the projects deliver to the objectives
• Take responsibility for the safe and compliant management of all site operations, overseeing systems such that risks are adequately controlled
• Schedule, organise and control various on-site activities to maximise visitor experience and maximise income potential
• Develop and manage the site budgets to ensure financial compliance and delivery of the RSPB objectives

<u>What we need from you </u>

As Site Manager for a number of reserves across a wide area, you will be responsible for operations, overseeing the effective and compliant delivery of work in order to deliver objectives for biodiversity, support and income generation.

Essential:

• You will understand the ecological requirements of key species and habitats
• You will have knowledge of project management
• You will be able to demonstrate putting Health, Safety & Environmental management knowledge into practice
• Knowledge of cross-compliance/risk management
• Knowledge of grazing to support conservation delivery, particularly in a woodland context
• You will have great interpersonal and communication skills
• You will be able to demonstrate skills in leadership
• Budget management will be familiar to you
• You will be adept at problem solving through Influencing and negotiation and being diplomatic
• You will have a proven track record of managing nature reserves
• Working with multi-functional team or in a big organisation
• You will be able to demonstrate a track record of managing people (staff and/or volunteers).
• You will have experience of undertaking wildlife surveys

Desirable:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
• The ability to speak Welsh
