We are the Environment Agency. We work with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to make our environment cleaner, safer, and healthier for people and wildlife. We tackle the effects and causes of climate change, perhaps the most serious long-term threat to the environment that we face.
This is an exciting new opportunity to support and manage various aspects of beaver reintroductions, particularly maximising benefits and minimising risks that beavers bring to our landscapes. We are looking for someone with a proactive and positive approach, along with a desire to work collaboratively.
As Area Beaver Specialist you will:
• Act as point of contact and develop relationships with internal and external partners.
• Provide up to date advice on risk management, best practice mitigation and, where required, precautionary steps to future proof new assets.
• Be part of a countrywide “virtual” team, working closely with our National Beaver Team and other specialists across the country to provide advice, guidance and grow skills.
• Support a national advisory panel on complex issues.
• Ensure that all our work complies with wildlife legislation.
• Input to and inform new wild release projects and support existing beaver management groups.
You will be part of our passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Teams. 1 post is in Kent and South London, 1 is in Wessex, and 1 is in Devon and Cornwall.

A major focus of the teams is to input into Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management capital schemes, maintenance of assets, water company environmental programmes, and partnership working to deliver priority habitat creation, river restoration projects and planning advice.
You will need:
• Sound technical knowledge of biodiversity, conservation and ecology and experience of developing policy and/or guidance in biodiversity. Ideally, you will be educated to degree level in ecology or other relevant discipline or have equivalent practical work experience.
• An outgoing nature: keen to work with a range of internal and external partners and able to bring people together and overcome difficulties with practical and pragmatic solutions.
• Enthusiasm: you will be passionate about biodiversity and able to communicate and influence effectively.
• A drive to learn and develop: You will have evidence of on-going learning and development/CPD on relevant policy and practice

You may also have some of the following: knowledge and awareness or beaver ecology and management, experience of working across functions, membership of a relevant professional organisation.
The roles will be based in Kent and South London, Wessex or Devon and Cornwall and interviews will be held in early September.
