We’re looking for an experienced project officer with a passion for working with communities, to inspire people to take action for nature in Greater Manchester.  This role will develop local partnerships and identify where the RSPB can best support and enhance nature, with support from conservation staff. 


The RSPB has a mission to put people at the heart of our work, and to build a movement for nature, engaging with a large and diverse audience. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the front-line delivery of RSPB’s innovative Saving Nature Through People strategy at a local level, inspiring people to connect with nature and empowering them to take action for it. Our ability to achieve this in large urban areas is key.


You will have experience of delivering community projects or events, and experience of leading volunteers, with the ability to motivate volunteers to independently deliver organisational objectives. This role builds on work undertaken in partnership with Manchester City Council and existing links to community groups. 


The ability to make decisions that enable the continued delivery of key objectives and to keep the project on track is crucial, as is the ability to communicate these decisions, where applicable, with stakeholders and partners.

Specific tasks:

•    To lead our work in Greater Manchester, delivering actions to save nature through people.
•    To identify key community stakeholders and form partnerships to further our aims, facilitation action for nature through others.
•    To develop and manage community volunteers to support our work and deliver change.
•    To work with our fundraising team to identify and develop opportunities for additional funding.
•    To embed evaluations measures to show impact across Greater Manchester.
•    To share learning gained with similar urban and community projects undertaken by the RSPB.


Essential skills, knowledge, and experience:
•    Experience of developing and managing projects.
•    The ability to deliver reporting and evaluation to show impact against agreed objectives.
•    Experience of working with community groups to deliver shared objectives.
•    Experience of recruiting and managing volunteers.
•    Great verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to develop partnerships and network – internally and externally.
•    Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage and deliver a diverse workload ensuring effective prioritisation and balancing of the needs of a range of stakeholders.

This is a Permanent Part Time role 15 hours per week, worked over 2 days.
