Job Description

Nattergal is an exciting new nature restoration company with a mission to deliver nature recovery at scale. We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to deliver a 15-month Landscape Recovery pilot at our first site – Boothby Wildland near Grantham in Lincolnshire, with opportunities for extending into a permanent role following excellent performance.

Nattergal is a new nature restoration company with a mission to “deliver nature recovery at scale to provide vital benefits for society and sustainable financial returns”. They aim to restore degraded ecosystems at scale, initially through the purchase of ecologically degraded and unproductive land with limited employment.

The company aims to return ecosystems to nature in perpetuity, thereby increasing biodiversity, sequestering carbon, and providing a local nature-based economy. The initial focus is on lowland reversion projects in England, replicating the successes delivered at our sister organisation Knepp, now one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the UK. Boothby Wildland is the first Nattergal purchase for these purposes, which will be an exemplar model of nature restorative land management, and is one of the 22 Landscape Recovery pilots recently announced by the government.

This is initially a 15-month fixed term contract position to align with Landscape Recovery project, but there is potential for extension or longer-term contract, subject to funding and performance.

This is an exciting role for a mid-career Project Manger keen to be at the forefront of the emerging nature restoration / natural capital industry. The role will contribute to the essential development of Nattergal business models and on-site operations and will involve a huge amount of learning on nature capital baseline and monitoring, finance models, public sector policy and community stakeholder engagement. There are multiple opportunities for development and progression within the company as we grow fast to deliver nature restoration at scale in the UK and beyond.

We need:
The successful mid-career candidate will be responsible for the efficient and timely delivery of a 15-month, Natural England-funded Landscape Recovery pilot at the 600-hectare Boothby Wildland site near Grantham. This will include the management of all required activities, and development of agreed plans (detailed below) to successfully deliver the project through to implementation stage.

Key responsibilities:

Efficient and timely management of all activities required within the Landscape Recovery project, including the development and delivery of:

  • Project Management & Governance Plan
  • Stakeholder Engagement Plan
  • Monitoring & Evaluation Plan
  • Land Management Plan
  • Site Access Plan

The role will include the management of all suppliers identified within the project budget – including Eco-Tourism, Planning, and River Restoration consultants, and natural capital baseline suppliers. The PM will produce monthly reports and cost budgets for sign off and to ensure the project is on track.

The role will lead on engagement with the Natural England Landscape Recovery team and be responsible for the successful submission of quarterly grant claims, based on agreed milestones.

The role will be supported in all the above by the Nattergal Head of Operations, Head of Natural Capital, Boothby Site Coordinator, and a part-time Research Assistant. It is likely that the last will be a direct report of the PM.

How to Apply:

If you wish to apply for this role, please submit a CV and short Covering Letter explaining your motivation for applying and briefly addressing the essential criteria for the role (up to 500 words) via the form at the bottom of this page. We also ask you to complete an optional Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Monitoring form; this does not form any part of the selection process but is used to help us monitor the effectiveness of our policy.
