About the Post:

Barnsley is changing, with a new Corporate Plan and a bold vision for Barnsley in 2030 as a place of possibilities.  At its heart is a commitment to concentrate on providing services where they’re most needed, where they’ll have the most impact and to help people do more for each other and their community.

Barnsley is a predominantly rural area, with part of the borough falling in the Peak District National Park and the Pennines.  We are looking to recruit an exceptional Definitive Map Officer to join our Team to help manage the continuous improvement of our Public Rights of Way network, which includes maintaining the Council’s Definitive Map of Public Rights of Way, including processing and managing modification orders.  This is a permanent role, based in heart of Barnsley at our Smithies Lane Depot site.   This role enjoys a combination of site-based work, office-based work and the flexibility to work remotely from home.

Our Definitive Map Officer plays a pivotal role within our core Service. You will have the unparalleled opportunity to drive forward improvements to the Public Rights of Way network, through utilising your skill and knowledge about Public Rights of Way legislation.  The role could also offer the opportunity to become involved with other aspects of the Public Rights of Way network.

Alongside your interest in the countryside and Public Rights of Way, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

·       Extensive experience of Definitive Map Modification Orders;

·       Robust project and financial management skills;

·       Experience of general aspects of Public Rights of Way management;

·       Experience of preparation of detailed Reports;

·       Excellent communication skills across a broad range of stakeholders;

·       A track record of identifying improvements by securing and delivering external funding opportunities promoted through Planning legislation and other mechanisms;

·       Detailed working knowledge of local and national strategies, policies and legislation including health and safety.

We live and work by our four values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service and taking pride in what we do.  As part of our team, you can be sure we’ll do all we can to support you in being truly excellent because we prioritise learning and enabling staff to achieve their potential. That’s one of the reasons why we achieved IIP Gold and why you’ll find your career here, inspiring and rewarding. In addition, we have an attractive and competitive employee pay benefits programme in addition to the basic salary. We are committed to supporting the principles of equal pay and aim to eliminate inequalities in our pay systems through fair and transparent pay framework and reward strategy.

This exciting time for Barnsley requires an exceptional candidate who can manage amendments to the Council’s Definitive Map. If you are eligible for the role and want to make a difference, then we’d love to hear from you.
