Calderdale Council declared an Ecological Emergency (EE) in 2022 and is now seeking to recruit a dynamic person to lead and deliver an ambitious Ecological Emergency strategic plan and actions.
Extensive experience is required in leading, writing, developing, and delivering strategic plans, as well as excellent detailed ecological knowledge and experience.
Key parts of this work will be working closely with a wide range of voluntary and statutory partners to analyse and collate ecological data to reverse wildlife declines, identifying local, national and regional biodiversity priorities.
Detailed knowledge of nature conservation, ecological principles, and habitat and species management is crucial as is detailed knowledge of UK & European, local, and regional biodiversity legislation policy, strategy, and its application.
A key element of the work will be the establishment and management of an Ecological Emergency partnership and the post holder will have full responsibility for developing projects, funding, and initiatives related to the EE.
The candidate needs to have demonstrable experience of managing and working with stakeholder partnerships. This will also require strong communication negotiation and analytical skills – able to analyse complex documents and develop innovative solutions as well as great communication and advocacy skills – able to negotiate and liaise with Council employees, developers, members, external organisations, volunteers, and the public.
Proven ability to use GIS and other IT packages including standard Microsoft Office software is essential.
A Degree or equivalent qualification in Ecology or a relevant subject or demonstrable experience.
Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purpose. Adjustments can be considered for candidates with a disability.
Must have held a Category B Licence for at least 2 years (if required to drive a work vehicle)
