An opportunity exists in the Council’s Street Scene Services for an Ecologist. This is a career graded post.
What will be expected from me?
The post holder will work on :-
The development and delivery of a sustainable Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) system and the creation of a Local Nature Recovery Strategy for the district which is a requirement of the governments newly adopted Environment Bill.
Using Natural England’s Metric 3 for calculating the monetary value of Biodiversity Units when accounting for any biodiversity loss through development and for all necessary mitigation and BNG improvements resulting from development.
Prioritising where and when BNG enhancements and improvement projects will take place to achieve maximum benefit.
Developing and delivering projects and management plans for sites where the requirement for biodiversity improvements have been identified.
Undertaking the monitoring and reporting on all BNG delivery projects and other works involving habitat improvements and enhancements.
Delivering a wide range of habitat and biodiversity improvements to parks, greenspaces and privately owned land within the district with the intention of encouraging naturalisation and adapting to Climate Change.
The post holder will also be expected to deputise for the Senior Ecologist. Represent the authority at external events and build constructive working relationships with other Council services, public and private partners, regional and national agencies and Government departments.
