Colchester Borough Council is responsible for the management of 15,000 trees growing within their parks and open spaces, and 66ha of woodland distributed across their countryside sites. They also provide an inspection and maintenance service for Essex County Council involving trees on the public highway.
The Council are seeking a Tree Operative Team Leader who can provide effective day to day programming of tree work and to undertake arboricultural work on Council tree stock throughout the borough.
Duties of the role
As an essential member of the Neighbourhood Services ‘Greening’ Team, you will organisee workloads, co-ordinate resources, and monitor performance on a daily basis, liaising with the Tree Manager, Tree Inspector, Countryside Rangers, Park Rangers and other members of the Greening Team.
You will also use and maintain chainsaws, chippers and arboricultural equipment to undertake tree work operations including dealing with emergency work, crown lifting low hanging branches, removing dead wood and dead trees, removal of epicormic growth, formative pruning of young trees, as well as assisting with woodland management tasks such as coppicing, hedge laying and tree planting.
