Job Profile: Marine Pollution Officer

Job Responsibilities:
Managing all of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s marine pollution projects such as beach cleans, engaging with local communities such as fishermen and working with businesses to reduce their impact on our marine environment. The skills required for this job are organisation, budget management, H&S, managing volunteers, creating educational resources and engaging with a variety of local community groups and stakeholders.

Majority of time is spent doing: Overall project management as well as on the ground delivery.

Time to spent mainly indoors, however this varies throughout the year.

  

Qualifications needed:
Degree level or equivalent (in a relevant subject) and 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrable experience to show equivalent knowledge and skills.

Additional training: DBS, Outdoor Incident Management, Safeguarding, H&S qualifications.

Skills needed: This role requires you to work with a variety of different groups and individuals so good people skills are essential. A lot of data is collected which requires organisation and verbal/writing skills to convey this in a way people will understand. You must work with minimal supervision and make challenging decisions when required.

  

Advice to anyone looking at similar roles:
Practical, hands on experience has been far more valuable for my career than a degree. Get as much relevant experience as possible!
