The EuCAN Dorset Mid-week Volunteers

In 2012, EuCAN CIC merged with the volunteer group formerly known as the BTCV Mid-week Volunteers in Dorset, as the BTCV (now renamed TCV) had chosen to wind up their group. This group is extremely well-respected in Dorset and regularly attracts over twenty people with a very wide range of ages, outlooks and interests. The group’s regular customers include Natural England, Butterfly Conservation, Wessex Water, the Forestry Commission and several individual farming estates including one which has entered into a five-year dry-stone walling contract with them.

The group bring with them a variety of practical skills including habitat management, hedge-laying, fencing, and dry-stone walling. The merger has increased EuCAN’s skills and knowledge base, and has provided all EuCAN volunteers with the opportunity to broaden their interests and experience.

Thanks to a generous grant from Natural England in 2013, EuCAN CIC took delivery of a 2007 Ford Transit minibus. Many of the participants in our volunteer workparties do not have their own transport and most of the sites we work on are inaccessible by train or bus, so this vehicle has become a fantastic asset to EuCAN, particularly to the Dorset Midweek Volunteers who will use it every Wednesday and any other days they work.
